Common Boundaries and Landmarks
Hello all,
I've been inspired to write to you this blog to help deal with a very increasing reactive culture in this world; we're talking about common boundaries and landmarks.
Sometimes it seems to me due to reactive culture and reactionary personalities in business, personal, and political lives that we need to find markers to help remain spot on to the vision that God has called us to be. So to this end, I wish to talk about two things you need to do to push back against the reactive culture and the contentious personalities it intends to stir up.
1. Boundaries: It's important to develop the technique of setting boundaries in our personal and professional lives. IF we don't we can go flat against the mission God has called us to be in. I've taken it as a hard lesson that boundaries need to be spaciffic and consistant, put some fire to it. Boundaries help you say no to the things you know go against your principles or inclination.
2. Landmarks: This is where both a vision board and a mission statement would help out so much. Landmarks are the clear signs that show you how to be on mission and on point. With a reactive culture no thanks to cellphones, social media, news and entertainment media people can get easiy knocked off mission. And for someone who has been repeatedly knocked off mission, it can be depressing and debilitating.
Let me clarify something to you right now. Those landmarks are of no use to you unless you set those boundaries and agree to be consistant with them. If not, you can't stay on mission. Sounds difficult, I know. But God is my witness if you don't set these boundaries and then landmarks other people will set it for you, and you're not going to like it!
As a man who studied political science and mass media, I am aware of how this can be done in both microcosm and macrocosm. If business or political leaders do not set boundaries and landmarks, the mission of the organization or country suffers. So also if someone does not set clear consistant boundaries and landmarks to keep them on mission, he or she loses big time.
In Christ,
James Hendrick
